Lily Bay State Park
Description:
Since the time of the earliest inhabitants, Moosehead Lake has been a location popular for fishing, hunting and a connecting hub of the major river systems in Maine. Through the early farming and logging activities that opened up this area, this part of Maine has also been a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts from Boston, New York and beyond. Wildlife viewing, hiking, boating, fishing and camping are some of the many available activities.
The 925 acre Lily Bay State Park offers 91 private, wooded, spacious campsites on the shore of the largest lake in New England, Moosehead Lake. Two boat launch sites with boat slips, a swim area, day use area and playground and a 1.6 mile shoreline hiking trail are additional park amenities. The cold, deep waters of the lake support a fish population of togue, brook trout and landlocked salmon. Moose, bear, deer and other wildlife are often seen here. Lily Bay offers spectacular views of Mt. Kineo which rises 800 feet from the middle of the lake. Hiking trails allow visitors to climb Kineo and enjoy the panoramic view of the lake from a different vantage point.
Season: May 1 – October 15: Fee
Off season: No fee.
In winter, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing attract hardy visitors to the park.
Special Notes of Interest:
Camping at Lily Bay is extremely popular during the prime months of July, August, and early September. Campsites may be reserved beginning in February of each year by visiting the Bureau’s website at www.campwithme.com. Directions: From Greenville - Travel on Route 6 & 15 to the blinking light. Continue straight on through the light from Greenville toward Kokadjo on the Lily Bay Road. Lily Bay Park is nine miles north of Greenville on the east shore of Moosehead Lake. The park entrance is well signed and is on the left of the road.
From Kokadjo - Look for the Lily Bay signs on the right side of the road.
